This month’s teen is Peyton.

If someone said the word overcome to you, what would you think of?
I imagine overcoming as a river running over rocks and branches in its path. It means staying brave through tough times.

What is the opposite of overcoming to you?
The opposite of overcoming is letting the obstacles in your path stop you from reaching your goals.

What famous person do you think overcame well?
I think Louis Zamperini had an amazing journey of overcoming. Not only did he compete in the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, but his plane crashed during WWII and he was put into a Japanese prison camp and endured brutal conditions. He eventually made his way back to God after the war and learned to forgive his captors.

Who is someone you know who has overcome?
Someone I know had been dealing with her own issues quietly, but she overcame them while staying positive. This friend of mine inspires me to stay strong.

What is something you’ve had to overcome?
I overcome things every day, but the biggest obstacle I’ve overcome is change. I’ve lived in several different towns and had to be the ‘new girl’ many times. It’s hard to adjust to a new school, but I’ve had to overcome my fears and step out of my comfort zone. I’m fortunate enough to have not gone through anything too traumatic, but everyone has struggles that can be overcome.
